Turkish Airlines beginning in early 2008 will offer AeroMobile’s
inflight connectivity service on one Airbus 340 aircraft.
The service will let passengers use their
mobile phones and personal Wi-Fi-enabled
devices inflight to access voice,
text messaging, and GPRS data services,
including “push-e-mail” (real-time,
“always-on”) applications.
AeroMobile will be launched on Turkish
Airlines’ principal international routes,
including flights within Europe and the
Middle East. AeroMobile has received
appropriate telecommunications regulatory
approvals for these regions.
Through extensive passenger research,
Turkish Airlines found a strong preference
for the introduction of these services.
AeroMobile’s technology ensures passengers’
mobile phones operate at their minimum
power settings, providing their safe
use on the aircraft and avoiding interference
to ground telecoms networks.
Cabin crew can control the system at all times.
AeroMobile’s system has been in service
on domestic flights within Australia since
April 2007 as part of an evaluation project
supporting GSM text messaging and
GPRS data services. More than 19,000
passengers have used their personal
phones on 1,200+ flights to date during
this project.
